We pray: -

For all those affected by the Covid19 virus: praying especially for the sick and for those who care for them, for the NHS and all key workers, and all who are afraid for themselves and those they love.

For those who have lost jobs or security in the drive to keep us safe.

For peace and unity, for our nation and every nation,

For persecuted Christians and all who suffer for their faith;

For all those in need, in this community and everywhere, thanking God for all who seek to alleviate their need.

Those who are on our hearts this morning and always;  especially remembering those among us who are unwell, among them: Pat Archer, Glen Chapman, Rev’d Katie de Bourcier,  Janet Harrington, Fred Hasleden,  Rev’d Hugh Mothersole, Rev’d Jo Parrott, Alma Pasfield,

A special prayer -                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           For those who are guiding our nation at this time,
 and shaping national policies, that they may make wise decisions:
 Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us.

The Collect (Prayer of the day)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Gracious Father,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          You gave up your Son for of love for the world, lead us to ponder the mysteries of his passion, that we may know eternal peace  through the shedding of our Saviour’s blood,Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Old Testament reading is Ezekiel 37:1-14 (the vision of the dry bones)

The Epistle reading Romans, 8:6-11 (Christ gives life through the Spirit)

The Gospel reading is John 11:1-45 (the story of Lazarus)

Psalm 130:

  1. Out of the depths have I cried to you, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice; let your ears consider well the voice of my supplication.

2          If you, O Lord, were to mark what is done amiss, O Lord, who could stand?

3          But there is forgiveness with you, so that you shall be feared.

4          I wait for the Lord; my soul waits for him; in his word is my hope.

5          My soul waits for the Lord, more than the night watch for the morning, more than the night watch for the morning.

6          O Israel, wait for the Lord, for with the Lord there is mercy;

7          With him is plenteous redemption and he shall redeem Israel from their sins.

A prayer for the world                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  God of love and hope,
you made the world and care for all creation,
but the world feels strange right now.
The news is full of stories about Covid 19.
Some people are worried that they might get ill.
Others are anxious for their family and friends.
Be with them and help them to find peace.
We pray for the doctors and nurses and scientists,
and all who are working to discover the right medicines
to help those who are ill.
Thank you that even in these anxious times,
you are with us.
Help us to put our trust in you and keep us safe.
